How do I find balance?
That is what is on my mind this week.
There are tons of obstacles thrown at us every day and we need to somehow find a way to balance all of them. Well, right now I feel like my scale is way off balance. Daily obstacles are forcing me down on the ground and the other end of the scale is way up in the air.
Each day on this journey I am trying to figure out what I need to do to make it successful and long term. This week feels as if I take one step forward but then as quick as I take that step I go for the next one and I get thrown back. After doing the Dump the Junk I was feeling pretty optimistic about where I was heading. I have continued to keep up the 10,000 steps 5 out of 7 days. (A big accomplishment for me!) I continued to enter my food intake into MyFitnessPal and have even stayed under my calorie range. So why does the scale say I gained?
Throughout this journey I continue to realize this is not just about me losing weight but about me trying to find myself. This leads me to one of the big struggles I am facing. How can I be a mom, a wife, working a full time job as an RN, run my home business, and find time for myself and my journey? I know I am not the only one out there trying to struggle through everyday life and the many hats we wear. It does however make me realize this is an obstacle and that I really do need to find balance to achieve my final goal of health and energy.
If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. Here is to finding balance this week.
Wow, that is the words that come to mind after completing my 5 day Dump the Junk. Not only was I able to lose 4 pounds but I had tons of energy! It really was the kick start I needed to get going this year especially with the slump I was experiencing at the end of December. All 5 days were pretty easy with the exception of the 5th day, when the thought of another salad for dinner was really hard to swallow. Hee Hee (sorry I couldn’t resist). With that said I am happy to report that I did push through and I ate that 5th salad for dinner and I am glad I did.
The extra energy I experienced also made a big difference. For the first time since starting on this journey I was able to get over 10,000 steps 5 out of 7 days. This was quite the accomplishment for me, before I never had the energy to achieve quite this many steps in one day. Some of this new found enthusiasm for exercise may have also come from moving my exercise routine to the evenings. But, whatever it was this combination seems to have done the trick. I am now achieving 20-30 minutes each time and not just the 15 minutes I set out to do. So here’s to continued success with my weigh in’s and maintaining the 10,000 steps each day.
I did jump on the scales a few days in a row after doing the “Dump the Junk” and my weight had fluctuated but, I was still excited because I feel like I have lost weight and have the needed energy to push along.
If only it were this easy :)
Change is in the air. This has been a very exciting start to the New Year for me. As I mentioned previously I was not real happy with my success so far on this journey and decided to change things up a bit. I started by doing a “Dump the Junk” mini cleanse this week that Cornerstone Health Team created and feel wonderful!!! I am on day 4 of the 5 day cleanse and I am feeling so much more energetic. Dump the Junk has so many handy charts, lists, recipes, and information it made this week a breeze. My husband and son also decided to join me and they too stated they are feeling a lot more energy. Several people are planning to do it starting on February 1st, and I would highly encourage everyone to give it a try. After the holiday season and winter doldrums it is the perfect time. It certainly was the kick start I needed to get me on track for a healthy happy 2016.
During my last blog I mentioned my exercise needed a change and here is what I did. I have decided to do my exercise in the evening which has been going very well. My goal was to start at 15 minutes on the treadmill for a week and increase it by 5 minutes. Well truth be told I have found I am really enjoying it. Not only am I doing my 15 minutes a day I am doing 20 or even 30 minutes at times. Maybe that was the key I needed to change. Or maybe it was changing the exercising from the elliptical to the treadmill. Variety is the spice of life and it was time to shake my program up. One other major change I have done was to do a better job of tracking my progress and recording on a daily log. This will prove very beneficial as we continue to tweak the program to give me the best results on my Quest to Be My Best. My latest measurements are down inches everywhere but I was really excited to see I have lost 5 inches off my stomach, which is where I carry most of my weight. Stay tuned for next week’s blog and I will reveal how many pounds I am down.
If you would like more information or are interested in doing a mini cleanse let me know.
With the New Year a lot of people make resolutions. Since I had already resolved to get healthier I decided this was a resolution I would just keep into the New Year. I did however take some time to look at how things have been progressing for me since starting my journey to be my best.
Truth is, I am really not happy with the results I have achieved so far! One thing that was not to my satisfaction was the amount of weight I have lost; a total of 12 pounds. I really felt I would have lost more by now.
Another area that needed to be changed was the amount of exercise I was doing. So I decided to start exercising in the evening. On previously diets I seemed to have more success at losing weight when I did some exercise (even just 15 minutes) before I could go to bed at night. This would mean that even at 10:00pm I would be on the elliptical. When I made this commitment to add the exercise at night I found I was sticking with the diet longer and actually sleeping better too. So for the month of January I am going to change the routine up and see how I do. Another thing I have decided is to start walking either outside or on the treadmill for 15 minutes every day. My plan is to add 5 minutes each week until I hit 30 minutes. The goal is to have at least 10,000 steps a day.
Now as far as my food intake, I have noticed after reviewing my entries that I am lacking protein. Protein is essential for weight-loss to retain the muscle and loss the fat. To help fill in this gap I will be adding another protein shake to my daily regimen.
I am also going to do a kick start for the year and do the “Dump the Junk - 5 Day Mini Cleanse”.
As I mentioned before this will be a 5 day cleanse and will help me jump start my new routine by helping eliminate craving and flush my body of built up toxins. I've done this program in the past and LOVED it. It is a very easy program to follow...and you won't find yourself starving at the end of each day!
The Cornerstone Health Team will be hosting a Dump the Junk round February 1st - 5th 2016.

Here it is another year (2016)! I am looking forward to a healthy happy year and something new.
With all of the holiday festivities going on these past couple weeks I really tried to just “sample” the treats like I had mentioned in my previous blogs. This allowed me to enjoy myself but still try to work on my weight-loss goals. I am happy to report that even with all the treats I only gained 1 pound on the scales.
With the excitement of 2016 and all it holds I am feeling optimistic with my goals for the New Year. I have not lost as much weight as I had planned since starting this journey and would like to put more effort into it starting in 2016. I still have a long way to go but I am pleased that I am still committed to the goal and have not quit. Often in the past I would have quit already when the weight did not continue to fall off.
One other thing I am planning on doing in January is to cleanse or “Dump the Junk” as we like to call it. “Dump the Junk” is a 5 day mini cleanse designed to reboot your body. It rejuvenates, energizes, and removes the toxic junk from your body. It will be a great way to reset my cravings, especially after all the treats in December, get energized so I can keep moving, and maybe even jump start me into losing a few extra pounds without going hungry, extra workouts, or a lot of cooking.
I have done this once before and really did feel more energetic at the end and feel that it will be a great idea again to help me get back on the weight-loss journey. I will talk more about the Dump the Junk - 5 Day Mini Cleanse and all the details on how you can join me in the next blog. I do believe it is a good idea to give the body a reset now and then to help boost it along to good health and keep everything working in tip-top shape. I would love for others to join me on starting this year by dumping the extra toxins and garbage from our system. Stay tuned for more details later this week.
